Walt Disney Production Cels Once the drawings are complete, inkers carefully trace the outline of the drawing onto celluloid. In later years, this laborious process was replaced by xerography. Though more effecient, it only allowed characters to be outlined in black, compared to the many colors hand inking allowed. When the outline was complete, the cels were carefully painted from behind in layers. Then the cel would be laid upon a background and photographed one frame at a time. Original production cels are extremely collectable. Prices tend to be based on film, character and pose. The age and image will certainly reflect pricing.
